photonicSENS, the leading supplier of single lens 3D cameras will be partnering with Qualcomm technologies.

The two companies will be collaborating to help accelerate the commercialisation of its industry-leading single lens 3D camera technology.

Smartphone manufacturers will be able to benefit from this technology greatly, seeing improvements to both front face and rear facing applications.

We could be seeing enhancements for face authentication, augmented reality, and even one-shot macro photography.

photonicSENS’ single lens 3D depth sensing solution will be a game changer for smartphones” says Ann Whyte, President of photonicSENS.

There will be a complete reference design based off of the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 888 5G Mobile Platform.

photonicSENS will be presenting this reference design at the Mobile World Congress 2021 in Barcelona, Spain.

The 3D depth camera reference designs from this collaboration are based off of photonicSENS’ single lens apiCAM technology.

With this technology, a single device can deliver an RGB image and depth map simultaneously.

This would allow for smartphone manufacturers and developers to have the ability to differentiate between enhanced photographic features.

[It features] a 1.4Mpx depthmap, the lowest component count, lowest cost and the lowest power dissipation, as well as the best performance in any environment. Snapdragon 888 is a clear leader, and we are excited to be working with Qualcomm Technologies to release our cutting-edge 3D sensing solution to market.
