Shopify acquired Primer

It has been announced that Shopify has acquired the team behind the augmented reality app Primer.

Primer is an app for iOS that lets you visualise how paint colours, tiles and even wallpapers will look instantly though augmented reality.

Primer co-founder Adam Debreczni said “Our team couldn’t be more excited to join Shopify.”

“We share their mission to make commerce better for everyone and look forward to building incredible products and experiences with our new colleagues.”

As part of the acquisition and transition, Primer’s app and service will be shut down on July 10th.

The Primer team consists of eight employees, which will all be moving to Shopify following the acquisition.

Augmented reality has potential to change the way we shop, especially online. Primer was a great example of the possibilities an quality of life AR can bring.

Shopify is at the forefront of online shopping, providing a platform and tools for people to create their own stores.

In the past, Shopify has worked on their own augmented reality tools. This allowed customers to embed 3D models and view it through augmented reality.

It seems like Shopify will probably be getting the Primer team to help develop and grow the augmented reality functionality more.
