Japan has had a huge impact on the entertainment industry through video games and anime, especially between the 1950s and 1980s. The iconic characters they made are still around and grown even popular.

Google notes that the popularity of anime has only grown stronger the past few years, with iconic characters like Hello Kitty still being searched up today. According to Google, the search term “anime sugoi” has spiked 2,300% in the past five years globally!

Anyways, now you can bring the characters to life with the 3D model augmented reality viewer in Google Search! You can watch Pac-Man being chased by Ghosts, or the cool Gundam mechas in action.

How do you access the characters?

Great question! All you need to do is just simply search up one of the characters on Google. There will be an option to “View in 3D” which will allow you to place the character down in augmented reality and interact with them.

Zoom in, rotate them, and even take cute pictures! You can read more about the process and decisions behind bringing these popular Japanese characters to life on Google’s official blog post!
